Dr Veronica FAQs Gynaecologist & Fertility Specialist in Newcastle, NSW
You may wish to see a gynaecologist if you’re experiencing concerns such as irregular or painful periods, heavy bleeding, pelvic pain, endometriosis, PCOS or changes in your reproductive health. Many women also attend for routine check-ups or preventative care. If something doesn’t feel quite right, it’s always appropriate to seek reassurance and guidance.
General guidance is if you’ve been trying to conceive for 12 months (or 6 months if you’re over 35), it may be helpful to see a fertility specialist. You may also consider an earlier appointment if you have irregular cycles, endometriosis, PCOS, recurrent miscarriage, or known male factor concerns. Seeking advice early can provide clarity and personalised next steps. Dr Veronica is happy to see anyone who is seeking a fertility assessment no matter the timeframe.
Depending on your individual circumstances, treatment options may include cycle tracking and ovulation induction, fertility investigations, IUI (intrauterine insemination), IVF (in vitro fertilisation), or management of underlying conditions such as endometriosis or PCOS. Doctor Veronica will take the time to understand your goals and develop a treatment plan tailored specifically to you.
Your first appointment is primarily a conversation. We take time to understand your medical history, menstrual cycle, previous pregnancies, and any concerns you may have. We will review any previous tests or treatments. Doctor Veronica will arrange appropriate investigations and outline possible treatment options. Many patients find reassurance in simply having a clear plan moving forward.
In general a GP referral is required to see a gynaecologist or fertility specialist, particularly if you wish to claim a Medicare rebate. If you’re unsure, just reach out and our team can guide you through the process. Medicare rebates can not be processed without a valid referral on the day.
Endometriosis can cause significant pelvic pain and fertility challenges. A gynaecologist can assist with diagnosis, symptom management, surgical options if required, and fertility planning. We take a wholistic approach to endometriosis. Care is always tailored to your symptoms, stage of life, and future goals.
Absolutely. Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) and irregular cycles are common concerns. We provide thorough assessment, lifestyle guidance, cycle management, and fertility support where needed, helping you feel informed and supported at every stage.
There’s no special preparation required. We would encourage you to bring any details of your menstrual cycle, medications, previous test results, medicines and supplements you are taking, and any questions you’d like answered. Most importantly, come as you are. This is a safe and respectful space to discuss your concerns.
For many individuals and couples, fertility treatment can feel emotionally complex. We recognise this and prioritise compassionate, patient-centred care. You will be supported with clear communication, realistic expectations, and referrals to counselling services if desired.
The AMH test measures the amount of Anti-Müllerian Hormone (AMH) in your blood. It is used as an indicator of the number of eggs in your ovaries, but does not tell us about the quality of these eggs. It is a useful tool for women who might need personalised fertility treatment, but without the right counselling can be misleading. Our approach focuses on explaining tests and treatment options clearly, and supporting you in making informed decisions.
We welcome patients from Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Maitland, Port Stephens, the Hunter Valley and surrounding NSW regions. Our aim is to provide accessible, specialist women’s health care delivered with clarity. We provide telehealth appointments and coordinate local care for fertility treatments to keep you close to home where possible.
Yes. No two patients are the same. Every consultation is centred on your individual health history, goals, and concerns. We believe in partnering with you to create a plan that feels informed, manageable, and respectful of your values.
